Staroid is a beautiful 2D action game that combines classic brick breaker gameplay with the random generation found in Archero. This is a game where bullets fly at every turn.
The objective in Staroid is to eliminate all the enemies and bricks from the screen. To do so, use the ball to break the bricks without letting it fall to the ground. If it falls, you lose a life. Last as long as you can to make it to the end of each world, which has several dozen levels and a final boss every ten screens that you'll have to try extra hard to defeat.
Staroid's simple gameplay makes this an enjoyable game for all ages: you can move your character from side to side with the buttons on the sides of the screen. If you double-tap either of these buttons, you'll move quickly enough to dodge enemy missiles and even pass through solid blocks. Don't worry about touching anything to make the ball bounce: all you have to do is be in the right place at the right time so it doesn't fall.
When you beat a level, you earn rewards for each screen to help you level up or get new equipment. Leveling up lets you choose a new skill from three possibilities. Many elements of this game are randomly generated, so it feels new every time you play. You can also spend gold to get permanent improvements.
Staroid is a fun action game with a good combination of gameplay from Arkanoid and Archero. Its graphics are similar to the graphics in Parodius, in part because of the way the enemies look.
